Bristol: Vegan capital of the world.

Bristol has long had the reputation of one of the best food scenes in the UK, in particular vegan food. According to GoogleTrends Bristol has one of the highest concentrations of Vegans in the UK and residents in Bristol typed in vegan-related searches throughout 2018 more than any other city across the globe. From food markets to quick service restaurants, we decided to take a dive exploring restaurants in the “Vegan Capital of the World” that are helping drive popularity in the area.

Vegan Markets

St Nicholas Market is a Vegan and Wellbeing Market with a variety of vegan options. The Smoked Vegan specialises in smoked jackfruit gyros and cold-smoked jerk tofu tacos, Elspeth’s Kitchen offers raw cakes and treats, Bun Kitchen serves gourmet plant-based sandwiches, and there are many more options from vendors. There’s also another vegan-slanted market at The Rabbit Hole in Montpelier, where a high-end vegan restaurant is slated to open in 2020.

Bristol Restaurants

Fi Real serves amazing vegan Carribean. Matter Wholefoods prides themselves as not only catering for vegans, but to offer all customers a healthy, plant-based alternative that actually tastes good. Also, Earthcake serves amazing cakes that are all free from dairy and eggs, but just as delicious as their animal derived counterparts.

Wapping Wharf provides a wide selection of vegan friendly restaurants as well, including Bertha’s Pizza, The Olive Shed, The Athenian, and Mokoko Coffee and Bakery.

Chain Restaurants

Veganism is now considered mainstream and a variety of chain restaurants offer great vegan options. Honest Burgers has one of the best vegan burgers around and don’t sleep on TGI Friday’s new vegan burger. Boston Tea Party also has vegan pastries to satisfy your sweet tooth. A few other of our favorites include Pieminister, Falafel King and The Real Greek
